Our most Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a portrait session often comes with a few questions. We’ve answered some of the ones we’re asked most often below, but if there’s anything else you’d like to know, we’re always happy to help.

When should I book my maternity session?

We recommend booking your maternity session after your 20-week scan, with your portrait session taking place between 30 and 36 weeks. At this stage, your bump has a beautiful shape while you're hopefully still feeling comfortable enough to enjoy the experience.

When should I book my newborn session?

It's best to book your newborn session during pregnancy to ensure availability. Your session will usually take place when your baby is between 7 and 21 days old when they're most likely to sleep soundly and curl naturally into those beautiful newborn poses.

However, I truly believe there isn’t a wrong time to photograph a baby.  Even if your baby is already here, please get in touch. I’d love to see you!

What if my baby arrives early or late?
Nonstop Updates

Don't worry. Once you've booked during pregnancy, we'll simply adjust your session date once your baby arrives. We leave flexibility in our diary for newborns, so there's no need to worry if your baby has other plans.

How long does a newborn session last?

Newborn sessions typically last around 2 hours.

Everything is completely baby-led, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, nappy changes and settling whenever your baby needs them. There's never any rush.

Is newborn photography safe?

Absolutely.

Your baby's comfort and safety are our highest priority. Susan has over ten years' experience photographing newborns and holds an HND in Newborn Portrait Safety. Every pose is carried out safely, gently and at your baby's pace.

Can parents and siblings be included?

Yes.

Parents and siblings are warmly encouraged to take part in both maternity and newborn sessions. We believe these family portraits often become some of the most treasured photographs from your session.

What should we wear?

Once you've booked, we'll send you everything you need to prepare, including advice on clothing and colours that photograph beautifully.

For maternity sessions, you'll also have access to our carefully selected studio wardrobe.

What is a Little Sitter Session?

Little Sitter Sessions are designed for babies who can sit confidently on their own but aren't yet crawling or walking, usually between 7 and 10 months.

It's one of the happiest stages of the first year, when smiles come easily and your baby's personality is really beginning to shine.

What happens during a Smash & Splash session?

We begin with some timeless birthday portraits before moving on to the Cake Smash (or fruit smash if you prefer). Once the messy fun is over, your little one can enjoy a warm splash bath, which often creates some of the biggest smiles of the session.

Do we need to bring the cake?

You are more than welcome to bring your own cake (and yes, if baby has allergies), but otherwise we can arrange the cake for you, making the whole experience as simple and stress-free as possible.

What if my baby doesn't smile?

There's absolutely no pressure.

Every baby is different, and some are naturally more serious than others. We take plenty of time to help your little one feel comfortable and capture beautiful expressions, whether that's big smiles, thoughtful looks or quiet curiosity.

What happens after the session?

Once your portraits have been professionally edited, you'll return to the studio for a private viewing appointment.

This is your opportunity to enjoy your gallery and choose your favourite images and artwork for your home.

What products do you offer?

We believe your photographs deserve more than a place on a phone.

Alongside your digital images, we offer handcrafted albums, beautiful wall art and professionally printed keepsakes designed to be enjoyed every day.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes.

We offer flexible payment plans to help spread the cost of your investment, making it easier to enjoy the portraits you love. Please ask for details when choosing your collection.
